Contracted by a London-based company within the building and construction sector in September 2021, AGP Decorators were involved in the full refurbishment of large elevation windows and stonework at London’s iconic King’s Cross Station, based in the heart of the Capital.

A FULL EXTERNAL REFURBISHMENT
The large, elevated windows of the prestigious London King’s Cross Station were discoloured, worn, tired and dated, requiring a full external refurbishment.
Due to the nature and use of the building, all works needed to be carried out whilst the building remained open and fully functional to the public. This brought its challenges, including ensuring the safety of those entering and exiting the building, as heavy machinery was needed to reach the windows (spider lifts & cherry pickers). We also needed to ensure there was always access to the building as travellers continued to come and go from the station. An acceptable clearance needed to be established from vehicles and surrounding buildings and businesses.

THE RESULT
In order to keep King’s Cross employees and the general public safe, the project required a strict programme of work and a thorough risk assessment was devised and executed within the timescales set by the client.
We needed to hire spider lifts to reach the desired heights. Our IPAF-qualified team used the heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
Full surface preparation of the windows and surrounding stonework was conducted, and an undercoat was applied before a gloss white paint was used.
We used Dulux Trade Weathershield Undercoat in White and Weathershield Gloss White to finish. We used Dulux Trade Weathershield Smooth Masonry for the surrounding areas and stonework. The high-quality products used helped us to ensure a smooth and long-lasting result for the client.
